History
Since 2005, Discovery Kids Learning Center has provided an outstanding early education and child-care experience for Western New York children and their families. We combine the expertise of our teachers and staff with a high-quality curriculum combined with a safe, nurturing environment where your child can discover a world of learning.
Mission and
Philosophy
What matters to us at Discovery Kids is simple: your child. We provide strong social and educational foundations that prepare your child for success in school and beyond.
We allow children to learn in their own ways, because children grow at their own pace, reaching milestones and developmental stages at various times. Each program is developmentally based and offers a wide variety of age-appropriate, hands-on learning materials and activities.
Cognitive development is stimulated using simple construction materials, such as hardwood blocks and Legos, and natural materials, such as clay, sand, and water, along with games and activities to spark imagination. Children are encouraged to think, reason, question, and experiment by participating in individual and group problem-solving experiences.
Physical development is enhanced through regular use of the Center’s gym space and equipment. We use our outdoor playground daily, weather permitting. Indoor active play equipment includes large balls, scooters, hula hoops, riding toys, and more!
Language development is stimulated by our book-rich environment, using materials for children of all ages. Teachers share stories and poems, facilitate group language experience stories, and encourage children’s emerging interests in writing as they scribble, draw, and trace. Word and letter recognition games and dramatic play activities stimulate communication skills among the children.
Social/emotional growth is realized as children learn to be positive members of their peer groups, listening to others, taking turns, following directions, completing tasks, and cooperating with other children and adults. Activities are designed to foster a positive self-image and provide opportunities for children to see and realize the impact they have on others and their environment.
Your child’s teacher will provide you with classroom-specific information and when your child joins us. You will also receive resources on other “ages and stages” topics as they become pertinent.
Our Staff
At Discovery Kids, our staff are at the heart of who we are. We have a team of loving, supportive, and educated caregivers who are carefully chosen with our ideals and beliefs in mind. They have educational and in-field experience, and they continue to nurture and guide our children every day. They know the ins and outs of child development, but they also know how to spread love and have fun.
